bangor day
Bangor Day is one of the highlights
of Parkmounts' year, the day starts with the lodge meeting the band, Portadown
True Blues Flute Band, at Park Road, Portadown for 8am before moving to Parkmount
to start the first leg of the parade which takes us to Carleton Street Orange
Hall where we meet both Corcrain Junior Lodge 120 and The Daughters of Laura
JWLOL 42 and their accompanying bands.
The
second leg of the Portadown parade leaves Carleton Street with the route taking
us thorough Portadown town centre to Edenderry where we caught the buses to
Bangor, County Down.
During the trip down to Bangor on the bus the lodge
had a quick raffle for a new Northern Ireland football top which was won by
a lodge member, every year lodge members receive collecting cards which they
use to help fund the cost of the bus, food & drink on Bangor Day and other
events held during the year so this year any lodge member who raised £100
or more received a Northern Ireland football as a reward.
Once we arrived in Bangor the lodge formed up with
the rest of Counties Armagh and Down at Castle Grounds before parading thorough
the town and back to Castle Grounds. Once the parade is dismissed the lodge
members then meet up with family and friends to enjoy the rest of the afternoon
before forming up for the return parade, this year the return was delayed to
allow an ambulance to attend the scene of a shopper who had taken a heart attack.
When the lodge arrived back in Portadown we formed
up for the parade back to Parkmount, normally the lodge also parade thorough
Portadown town centre before ending the parade back at Parkmount as per the
parades
commission guidelines.
